19972024

The legacy of service began in 1997.

Following the passing of Dikembe Mutombo on September 30, 2024, the Foundation carries forward the extraordinary legacy of service he began through the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation in 1997.

His belief in using his life, resources, and platform to uplift others remains at the heart of our work.

The Dikembe Mutombo Legacy Foundation is committed to expanding access to quality healthcare and education, advancing girls' education and opportunities, empowering youth for a better future, and supporting sustainable initiatives that strengthen communities and bring hope to those who need it most.

Rooted in Dikembe's belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, good health, education, and hope, the Foundation will continue building upon his work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, across Africa, and in underserved communities around the world.

Through service, partnership, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, we are committed to ensuring that Dikembe Mutombo's legacy does not end with his passing. It continues through the lives we touch, the communities we strengthen, and the generations we empower.

Dikembe often spoke about legacy not as something that ends with one person, but as a responsibility that is passed from one generation to the next.

Our legacy in life is about the race, and this race is not finished, we just have to pass the torch.

Building upon his work in the Congo.

The 1997 foundation's flagship was Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in Masina, Kinshasa, named for his mother. It opened in 2007. The Legacy Foundation exists so that work, and the wider commitment to health, education, and quality of life, does not stop at the door of memory.
